Competitive Intelligence Checklist

In earlier articles, I mentioned about Finance’s role as a business partner to other operating managers in terms of performing financial reviews of your competitors.

In this article, we’ll review to what degree your Company fares in terms of Competitive Intelligence. The following questions are set to test:

1	Does your company collect information on competitor?
2	Does your company collect information on technology trend?
3	Does your company collect information on macroeconomic conditions?
4	Does your company collect information on political events?
5	Does your company collect information on environment trends?
6	Does your company collect information on demand/supply forces?
7	Does your company collect information on financial markets?
8	Does your company collect information on public opinions?
9	Does your company collect information on changes in the industry?
10	Does your company analyze the collected information using subject experts?
11	Does your company analyze the collected information using analytical tools?
12	Does your company analyze the collected information using special groups?
13	Does your company periodically identify and prioritize the risks from the analyzed information?
14	Does your company have a person responsible for synthesis of the collected and analyzed information and preparation of intelligence reports for top executives?
15	Does this person prepare such reports at least once per two months?
16	Does the top management respond to the report by means of modification of the strategy and projects plans?
17	Does the top management periodically monitor the performance of these modifications?
