Financial Assistance For SME - Grants

The Malaysian government has assisted many small and medium scale enterprises (SME), by providing grants so as  to modernize their business operations and improve their competitiveness.

Some of the grants available are:-

  • Grants to meet training costs of projects in selected sectors, both domestic and overseas;
  • Grants for companies in selected sectors to undertake R&D activities in Malaysia;
  • Grants for commercialization of research findings and innovations in selected growth sectors;
  • Grants from the proposed Fund for Development and Promotion of Malaysian Brand Names for Malaysian companies.

Tabulated below is a list of Grants (not exhaustive) available mainly for SME.

Grant Purpose
RosettaNet Grant The government has allocated RM5m as grants for local Electrical and Electronic (E&E) companies to implement RosettaNet.
E-Commerce Grant for SMIs The Scheme is intended to assist SME to quickly integrate themselves into the mainstream of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in order to ensure their survival in a changing globalised market place. (Discontinued with effect from 27 June 2002 as it has reached the allocated budget and there is no additional fund).
Engineering Design Grant The Scheme provides assistance for SME to enhance their engineering design capabilities. This would enable SME to carry out their own design in-house.
Market Development Grant To assist SME in undertaking activities for the development of export markets.
Commercialisation of Research and
Development Fund (CRDF)
The Scheme provides partial grants to qualified R&D projects to be commercialized up to a maximum of 50% to 70% or RM2 million, whichever is lower.
Technology Acquisition Fund (TAF) The Scheme provides partial grant to further promote efforts by the private sector to enhance their technology level and production processes.
Grant for Business Planning and Development (ITAF 1) – The Scheme provides grants to SME Business planning studies, Domestic and export market strategy studies, Market feasibility studies and Technology feasibility studies.
Grant for Product and Process Improvement (ITAF 2) - The Scheme provides grants to SME for improvement and upgrading of existing process, products and designs.
Grant to Upgrade Production/ Engineering and Design Capabilities The Scheme provides grants to SME to upgrade their production/ engineering and design capabilities.
Grant for Productivity and Quality Improvement and Certification (ITAF 3) The Scheme provides grants to SME for:
- Productivity and Quality improvement
- Productivity and Quality improvement based on customer’s requirement
- Documentation of productivity and quality improvement
- Productivity and Quality system certification
- Total Quality Management Scheme
- Quality development systems, Production and Planning Control, Quality Control Circles, Total Preventive Maintenance
- Occupational and safety measures
- Quality Series: ISO 9000, ISO 14000, ISO 18000
- HACCP, Halal and other product quality certifications
Grant for ICT Application (expanded E-Commerce Grant Scheme) The Scheme provides grants to assist SME’s participation in E-commerce and Emanufacturing activities.
Grant for Skills Upgrading The Scheme provides grant for training programmes to upgrade critical skills, efficiency and productivity of SME.
Factory Auditing Scheme The Scheme provides grants for SME to employ technical experts to undertake diagnostic audits on SME’s manufacturing operations. The audited reports will enable SME to seek appropriate assistance to enhance their capability as suppliers of parts and components as well as services to large companies/Multi National Corporations.
