It is interesting to note that a record number of 37 Chinese companies appeared in the 2009 Fortune 500 ranking of the world’s largest corporation. The figure puts China in fifth position behind the US,Japan,France and Germany. Ironically,US,despite leading the listing with 140 companies was the lowest since the list began 15 years ago.
Topping the Chinese ranking was Sinopec,China Petroleum &Chemical Corporation at number nine,up from 16th last year. China National Petroleum appeared in 13 place and State Grid was 15th. There are nine new names on the list,China United Telecommunication was 15th in the fastest growing companies section,with a 70.4% increase in revenue from 2007
